I stopped by this site when was browsing the web looking for some online resume help. I was going to write a resume on my own as I believed that no one would know my experience and strengths better than me. This site called Free Resumes offered numerous resume samples for reference and was literally stuffed with various articles related to resume writing. I checked some of them, and they turned out to be not helpful at all; so I decided to get the samples I came for.

Price policy

Here was my second disappointment. When I clicked on Download to get those samples, it took me to checkout page. It said that those samples were worth $19.95. Well, that wasn’t expensive, but why did they stated their resumes were free? They also kept taking me to some resume writing website. I was not going to check that site as I suspected it could have been fraudulent. So I simply paid using my credit card to get the samples.

The process

The package contained over 175 resumes and cover letters for various industries and career levels. I wondered, however, why they packaged all the stuff in one – as a recent Marketing graduate, I didn’t need Nursing and Engineering samples. So, I found the Marketing template that fit me most and took some information and phrases from it. However, later I had an idea – what if someone takes the same phrases for this resume? I realized that using a template wouldn’t make my resume unique. Moreover, the template was about an established professional, while I had only two years of experience.

Though the resume was easy to use and I easily wrote a new resume using this one, the process made me stressed. I wasn’t happy with the result at all. Though I listed all my academic activities and work history, the resume still didn’t shine.

The bottom line

As you can see, I didn’t get from these templates what I expected. A friend of mine who saw my concerns recommended me this Site for resume writing. I’ve always been skeptical about letting someone write my resume. However, their writer really exceeded my expectations. He did an important thing that I didn’t manage with – he presented me in an attractive light. Now I think I should’ve spend these $20 on something else, not on those templates.
